We're perfectly willing to give Square Enix multiple chances to deliver a Final Fantasy that satisfies the hardcore long-time fans. And although most aren't counting on the Final Fantasy XIII sequel to be the RPG they've been waiting for (many are assuming FFXIII-2 will be more action-based), we'll be intrigued by any information. And provided the details are accurate in this VGN.it preview, we're semi-excited to see what the game will include. The translation is funky but there seem to be juicy tidbits in the "old and new" section; check these out:

"Square Enix seems to have gotten the message of the fans and more than a few occasions has reiterated that in this sequel will attempt to rectify past mistakes and build a more complete and satisfactory as it is deemed, however, still shrouded in mystery."

With E3 less than a week away, Square Enix has decided to rev up the Final Fantasy XIII-2 hype machine a little early. On display are two new screenshots and more details on what the game's story will actually be about. Set a few years after FFXIII, Lightning is missing and it's up to her sister Serah to find her. Players will take control of Serah along with Noel, a mysterious stranger who saves the young lady from monsters, as the pair set out to locate the girl's taciturn older sister.

Director Motomu Toriyama and producer Yoshinori Kitasi have said in earlier interviews that the plot will be darker and more mysterious than the previous game, in contrast to the bubbly pop diva route taken by FFX-2. According to Siliconera, players will seek out an invisible world called Bunibelle in FFXIII-2. The goddess Etro is also expected to play a pivotal role in the story. Take that as you will, but it looks like the sequel will explore the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology in greater detail. Also, pictures! Get used to seeing Serah and Noel, at least in the early going. [SOURCE]

Final Fantasy XIII-2, which was first announced at Square Enix’s 1st Production Premier event back in January, will headline the publisher’s E3 slate. The game will be playable for the first time on the E3 show floor, where it will be joined by other big titles like Hitman: Absolution, Tomb Raider and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Suffice it to say, Square Enix has hugely embraced the Eidos Interactive properties they acquired back in 2009. Square Enix will also be showcasing Deep Silver’s Dead Island at their booth, which they will distribute in North America.

Hit the cut for generic details and the second 27 second teaser trailer provided by Gamespot.com (via youtube.com).
