Square Enix briefly shared their plans for ‘Final Fantasy 13-2′ DLC, which includes at least two releases a month of new costumes, monsters, and weapons.

Though Square Enix might have got a few things right with Final Fantasy XIII, there were many more things that they got wrong. Luckily, with Final Fantasy XIII-2, the developer is getting a chance to deliver the JRPG experience gamers were craving in 13, but never ended up finding.

Part of delivering that superior RPG experience in Final Fantasy XIII-2 involves making a game world that is continuously growing. While earlier Square titles like fan-favorite Final Fantasy VII never had the opportunity to reap the benefits of DLC, Final Fantasy XIII-2 does, and will be delivering a lot of it.

In fact, Square Enix has said that they have a plan to release DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2 up to two times a month, providing players with new weapons, monsters, and costumes. But the plan isn’t just to allow those who purchase the DLC (if the DLC isn’t free) to simply unlock the new items; some will have to be earned.

The first image of DLC in Final Fantasy XIII-2 has now been posted by Square Enix. We now can have a glimpse of the alternate weapon Serah can wield. This weapon of Serah’s can be obtained if you pre-order the game from Lawson’s. It’s this item where Serah can sap the energy off enemy monsters. Square Enix has hinted that the weapon could be obtained while playing Final Fantasy XIII-2 itself. The only difference being that it on’t be available in the colour seen on the image below. XIII-2 is almost done:
In an interview of Famitsu with Producer Yoshinori Kitase, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is nearly done. With the game releasing on December 15th in Japan, it would be right for Square Enix to finish Final Fantasy XIII-2. By next week, hopefully the game will be gold and ready for shipping when the game comes out. Now that XIII-2 is nearly done, does that mean they’ll start working on Versus XIII soon? Well, Kitase didn’t leave any comment when asked about that topic. [SOURCE]

With the promotional gears in full spin for Final Fantasy XIII-2, the next step naturally involves AKB48. Group member Yuko Oshima worked with Square Enix to co-design two costumes for the RPG, but that's just the beginning of her campaign.

Oshima will also be starring in a commercial for XIII-2—set to start airing on November 15—in which she attends a development meeting and proposes her costume concepts. It's not going to be that easy for Oshima, though. After the commercial debuts, the official site for XIII-2's beta testers will hold a popularity contest for the costumes, and the winning outfit will appear in the game.

Square-Enix sure do love to tease their Final Fantasy fans. Earlier this month they released some tantalising tidbits about the pre-order bonuses and editions you could receive, and now they’ve gone and released a small selection of new screens for fans to drool over.

Below you can see six new screens, all from in game footage. Two we are assuming come from cutscenes, and then one from a battle (can’t tell if its a player controlled creature or an opponent) and then three screens of the slightly modified Crystarium. It’s interesting to see that there is now a list option of characters to choose, and that creatures are also listed, hinting at possible upgrade trees for them too. Most interestingly of all was the inclusion of a Cait Sith on the list, shame it’s almost nothing to do with the megaphone moggy from Final Fantasy VII. [SOURCE] + [SOURCE #2] + [SOURCE #3]

The latest trailer for Square Enix’s upcoming Final Fantasy Sequel, XII-2, has hit the web. In this trailer we get a good look at the basics of combat and how it has evolved since last year’s Final Fantasy XIII.

Paradigm shifts are of course still a central part of combat, the ability to change up your character’s move-sets at any time can be a huge advantage. New to XIII-2 are “Cinematic Action” sequences which play out like the quick time events featured in modern action games. Check out the full trailer in the embedded player below. You’ll be able to check out the new combat system for yourself when the full game hits store shelves on January 31st. 2012. [SOURCE]

Square Enix plans to release downloadable weapons, costumes, and guest bosses for Final Fantasy XIII-2. Some items, like the Seraphic Wing, are pre-order bonuses. If you’re in Japan, you can get this special weapon for Serah by pre-ordering Final Fantasy XIII-2 from HMV or Lawson convenience stores. The transforming bow/sword (which is actually a moogle!) saps life from enemies each time you damage them.

While Square Enix has not announced the Seraphic Wing for North America, we have a different special weapon – the Genji Bow. [SOURCE]
